Healthcare Leadership Council Statement on Final Physician Payment Sunshine Act Rule
“It is important that the public have a clear understanding of physician-industry interactions.”
WASHINGTON – Mary R. Grealy, president of the Healthcare Leadership Council, issued the following statement regarding the final Physician Payment Sunshine Act rules.
“The Healthcare Leadership Council is carefully reviewing the new Physician Payment Sunshine Act rule. As this rule is being implemented, publicly discussed and covered in the media, it is important that the public have a clear understanding of the nature of physician-industry interactions. The overwhelming majority of these collaborations are focused on developing safer and more effective medical innovations and helping physicians better understand how to utilize new medications and technologies for the benefit of their patients. And, in fact, physicians and medical innovation companies alike regularly demonstrate their commitment to transparency, researcher independence and a patient-centered focus.
“HLC has created a platform for detailed discussion and exploration of this issue. The National Dialogue for Healthcare Innovation (NDHI) has engaged prominent clinicians, academic health centers, industry and patient organizations to develop consensus principles on how physician-industry collaboration should be conducted. Those principles will be publicly released in the near future.”
