Mayo Clinic CEO: Medicare Reform Should Be Next Stage of Health Reform
In a video interview, Mayo Clinic President and CEO John Noseworthy, M.D. said that Medicare needs to be transformed into a program that “incentivizes, rewards and drives” high-quality healthcare and more cost-efficient care.
He said an improved Medicare must recognize the different types of healthcare patients receive – primary, intermediate and complex – and reward the quality and value of each. Dr. Noseworthy also noted that Medicare only pays approximately 60 percent of the actual cost of providing care to patients.
