HLC Urges CMS To Make Data More Available

The Healthcare Leadership Council is urging CMS to lift restrictions on commercial groups’ access to federal health data as it also presses the agency to make available not only cost data, but more clinical and quality data as well as contextual information on the data released.
“As taxpayer-funded entities, it is the responsibility of the government health agencies to maximize public benefit from data collected through their operations,” the group states in its data principles. HLC, which includes members across the industry including hospitals, drug makers, and health plans, says it is important for innovation that stakeholders have broad access to CMS data.
