The Quality of Healthcare
As has been frequently noted, innovation does not happen in a vacuum. HLC members have demonstrated time and time again that the private sector has the ability to transform American healthcare – to achieve improved patient outcomes, greater cost-efficiency and an elevated degree of wellness in the populations they serve, be they employees, patients, or the community.
For innovation to have a systemwide impact, however, an accommodating public policy environment is essential. This environment must not only provide the private sector with the tools that enable groundbreaking progress, but also a legislative and regulatory approach that does not slow the pace of innovation but rather recognizes the potential for rapid transformative improvements and encourages developments that significantly improve care for patients.
