Director of Communications

Position: Director of Communications 

Joining the Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC) team offers an exciting opportunity to actively contribute to an organization that represents all segments of the U.S. healthcare system and advocates for affordable, high-quality care for all Americans. HLC seeks a Director of Communications to work with the new Vice President of Communications, and coordinate with members of the government affairs and policy teams.  

This ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker who is committed to collaboration and able to execute in a fast-paced environment reflecting the innovation, complexity and sophistication of the industry we serve.  

We are looking for someone who has 3 to 5 years of communications experience in a trade association, government, political campaigns, a consulting firm, or journalism – healthcare knowledge is a plus. In addition, the Director of Communications needs to be a strong writer and be able to juggle multiple projects at once. 

Key Functions:  

  • Support media relations activities including writing press statements, blogs, reports, and other public-facing material  
  • Plan/outline communications functions for HLC meetings, other outside events  
  • Manage HLC’s social media channels and maintain HLC website  
  • Monitor digital and traditional media for relevant news and narratives to identify opportunities for a communication response – especially regarding HLC members.  
  • Manage and distribute regular email updates to membership  
  • Plan and manage issue briefings and webinars  
  • Develop content, presentations, and other material for internal and external audiences  
  • Collaborate with communications representatives at member organizations and partner coalitions to create and promote timely content  
  • Assist with special projects/reports as needed  

Job Location: 

The office is conveniently located near City Center in downtown Washington, D.C. Our team works remotely on Mondays and Fridays and is in the office Tuesday-Thursday.  

What We Offer:  

The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $115,000. The actual salary paid for this position will vary based on market data, an applicant’s qualifications, relevant degrees, certifications, and other factors.
