Hill Briefing:  Patient Adherence Critical to Improved Outcomes, Cost Containment

Experts from inVentiv Health, Novartis, SCAN Health Plan, and Walgreens discussed various aspects of patient adherence at a July 14 congressional briefing hosted by the Healthcare Leadership Council.  As discussed at the briefing, evidence is mounting that adherence to medications, therapies, and healthy behaviors can significantly improve health and reduce health system costs.

The briefing discussed a number of issues including the need to tailor adherence strategies for different segments of the patient population, new tools and technologies to encourage adherence, and the different touchpoints within the healthcare system at which patients can be engaged.
