“Enable the growth of private-sector AI innovation and advancements to improve health” – HLC and Confidentiality Coalition Respond to AI Action Plan RFI Detailing Extensive Healthcare Industry Solutions

The Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC), an association of CEOs and C-suite executives from all sectors of healthcare, responded to the National Science Foundation’s request for information (RFI) on the development of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan (Plan). The comments were submitted on behalf of HLC and the Confidentiality Coalition, a diverse alliance dedicated to balancing the protection of confidential health information with the need for efficient, interoperable systems that enhance healthcare delivery.

As directed by the Presidential Executive Order 14179, this Plan will define priority policy actions needed “to sustain and enhance America’s AI dominance in order to promote human flourishing, economic competitiveness, and national security.”

The use of AI technology in the healthcare industry has benefitted patients for decades, and with rapidly advancing capabilities, the full potential has yet to be realized. In the response, extensive AI examples from HLC’s members are detailed by application. The letter also strongly supports the removal of unnecessarily burdensome requirements that restrict the development and deployment of AI.

“As AI continues to revolutionize healthcare, our member organizations are iteratively driving innovation.” said HLC’s Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer Katie Mahoney. “We welcome the opportunity for continued collaboration and stand ready to leverage the expertise of our private sector members to strengthen and develop effective, forward-looking solutions.”
