Healthcare Leadership Council Taps Veteran Healthcare Communicator for Top Communications Post
Sean Brown brings decades of experience from journalism, Capitol Hill and association worlds
Washington, DC, June 14, 2024 – The Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC), the leading health industry association representing CEOs and C-suite executives from all sectors of healthcare, today named Sean Brown the organization’s Vice President of Communications. Brown joins HLC from the Federation of American Hospitals where he spent more than 8 years in various roles, most recently as Vice President, Public Affairs and Digital Strategy. Brown is the latest addition to the executive team of new HLC President and CEO Maria Ghazal.
“Sean is a fantastic addition to HLC, and I join our leadership team in welcoming him aboard,” said Ghazal. “As a seasoned policy communicator and former broadcast journalist, Sean brings an ideal skillset to articulate and elevate the private sector’s critical role in delivering affordable, accessible, high-quality care to Americans.”
At FAH, Brown led communications strategy and produced the organization’s influential bi-monthly podcast Hospitals in Focus, where leaders from across the healthcare industry were interviewed about the most pressing topics of the day. He joined FAH after a successful tenure on Capitol Hill, where he served as Communications Director for Congressman Joe Barton (R-TX), former Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee. Prior to his Hill service, Brown spent ten years working as a television reporter in Arkansas and Florida.
“I’m excited to join the dynamic team at HLC, where the energy and momentum are palpable,” said Brown. “At a time when Washington is divided on almost everything, this organization has the rare ability to bring the whole healthcare industry together to find bipartisan solutions to improving patients’ access to care. I’m looking forward to working with HLC’s members, who are uniquely qualified to tackle the critical issues facing U.S. healthcare.”
A native of Texas, Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Communication from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, and a Masters in Broadcast Journalism from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.
