“Important First Step” – HLC Leader Applauds Passage of CR, Urges Congress to Prioritize Health Coverage

The Healthcare Leadership Council, an association of CEOs and C-suite executives from all sectors of healthcare, released the following statement by President and CEO Maria Ghazal upon today’s Senate passage of the continuing resolution to fund the government through September.

“We appreciate Congress’ passage of the continuing resolution. It is an important first step toward protecting healthcare for millions in our nation, but it is just that – a first step. This short-term government funding solution ensures continued access to care for seniors by temporarily extending several vital health programs – including Medicare telehealth flexibilities and the Hospital at Home initiative.

“But lawmakers can’t stop there.

“Congress must now focus on safeguarding Medicaid from harmful cuts during the reconciliation process. Failing to do so could threaten this critical lifeline for millions of children, seniors, and our most vulnerable. The enhanced tax credits that help Americans purchase affordable private healthcare coverage must also be extended. Without action, working families will see significant increases in their premiums, putting this critical coverage out of reach for far too many.

“We look forward to working with Congress to make these healthcare priorities a reality.”
