Statement by Healthcare Leadership Council President Mary R. Grealy on HHS Release of Final Data Interoperability Rules
While we will be studying these extensive rules in detail, we applaud the administration’s efforts to strengthen the ability of patients, healthcare providers and payors to exchange health information and to give patients greater control over their own health information.
We are pleased that many of these provisions align with recommendations made last year by the Healthcare Leadership Council and the Bipartisan Policy Center, including the rapid adoption of open source standards to improve data access and interoperability. We also appreciate that responsibility is being placed with the private sector to develop the tools and applications that will connect patients and consumers with their health information. Providing additional time for compliance was also a welcome step by the administration.
We look forward to sharing additional comments upon further analysis of the rules.
