Statement from Katie Mahoney, Healthcare Leadership Council, on Draft Bipartisan Data Privacy Legislation
WASHINGTON, DC, April 8, 2024 — The Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC), the leading health industry association representing all disciplines of American healthcare, today released the following statement from Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer Katie Mahoney welcoming the discussion draft of bipartisan legislation, “The American Privacy Rights Act,” released by House Energy and Commerce Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) and Senate Commerce Chair Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.):
“This legislation is a significant bicameral bipartisan breakthrough; we applaud Chairwoman Cantwell and Chairwoman McMorris Rodgers for their bold leadership. The currency of our nation’s healthcare system is the data that is so critical to understanding patient health history and to identifying timely, often life-saving, care and treatment. The Healthcare Leadership Council, which represents leaders from across the diverse spectrum of our industry, has long advocated for a uniform national privacy standard to enable companies to operate efficiently on a nationwide scale. We welcome this bipartisan discussion draft and look forward to providing comments.”
